An overview of the possibilities of the component simulation.

The additive manufacturing processes open up both new possibilities and new challenges. Numerical simulation is already often used as a supporting tool. Everybody knows the synergies that the physics-driven component design shows through topology optimization with the free design possibilities of additive manufacturing. In addition to an optimal form finding especially adapted for additive manufacturing, the virtual representation of the manufacturing process of the product is essential. Only this makes it possible to predict the thermal stresses caused by the high local heat input during the melting process and thus to determine the resulting distortion of the component in advance and to avoid misprints.
