Data transmission - for assistance systems and infotainment in cars, data volumes will in future be transmitted as in a data centre - with extremely high demands on the robustness of safety-critical ADAS applications. Where are the limits of the transmission channels?

Future vehicle generations will be defined more and more by functions in the areas of infotainment and assistance systems. For them to work, massive data processing is required. In the process, immense amounts of data are moved through the vehicle. At the same time, the demands on robustness in the car are very high - in addition to the mechanical component properties, this also applies to signal integrity and EMC. In addition, the variety of automotive data network architectures is increasing.

This webinar provides an overview of the modern high-speed communication channels in the car and their characteristics. The channels are analysed with regard to signal integrity with a view to current and future possible transmission protocols. The results are related to other automotive requirements, for example miniaturisation. Additionally, the necessity and methods of channel analysis are discussed.

In 2009, Christian Mandel received his engineering diploma in electrical engineering and information technology from the Technical University of Darmstadt, Germany, and in 2014 he received his doctorate in the field of microwave technology with a focus on wireless sensor technology and RFID. Several semesters as a postdoctoral fellow followed with activities in teaching and research. Since 2016, Mr. Mandel has been working as R&D engineer in the pre-development department for Automotive Data Connectivity at TE Connectivity. Since then, he has been working on the development of new connector systems for the automotive sector as well as on issues of signal integrity, EMC and channel simulation.
